Mary Dalton is an internationally-recognized and award-winning artist. Her work combines different techniques to generate a language in print that is unconventional and energetic. This energy is also reflected in her teaching and her pop-up printmaking workshops.
The excellent Crowood Press have done it again. Expressive Printmaking by Mary Dalton goes back to first principles to rediscover the full potential of printmaking. If you follow my print making antics on my Bothy Editions Instagram account, you'll know that I'm a big fan of playing with print, so a book that covers printing by hand, by press, using techniques that range from paper drypoint tot Mokulito and from monoprint to plaster cast impressions, is right up my street!
This is an informative and well-laid-out manual with an emphasis on ‘dynamic expression and fun’. Designed for the curious intermediate, the book is a rich source of inspiration for printmakers looking to add new techniques and layers to their process. While support is offered through a series of follow-along projects to cover all the basics, so beginners should not be intimidated by the advanced methods.
