Natasha Smart has been wet felting for over fifteen years and specializes in the felting on a ball resist technique. She runs regular wet felting workshops from her studio in Devon, and teaches online courses.
I would say that any beginner could pick up this book and progress through it easily, and try most of the projects. There is also enough here for an intermediate to more experienced feltmaker to learn, especially if you have not tried the ‘Felt on a Ball’ technique. Anyone could benefit from Natasha’s ideas on surface textures and decoration, and on how to use a good colour palette in their work. It is certainly a book which I will be dipping in and out of for ideas and inspiration.
This colourful and informative book is a complete guide to the wet felt-making process, including explaining what the process is, materials and equipment required, a clear how-to guide with lots of handy tips and instructions for nine projects – and it’s great fun and a good workout, too!
This is a comprehensive book. Whether one is a beginner or an experienced felt maker, my guess is that there is something new foe everyone to learn or take inspiration from.
The importance of top-notch photography as a teaching aid has been recognised and all the step-by-step instructions are visually illustrated, making this book ideal for the complete beginner to gain confidence and grow, as well as inspiring the more experienced wet-felter to experiment further with new designs, different techniques, unexplored tools, novel materials and innovative embellishment materials.
If you can only buy one felting book, this should be at the top of your list.
